CREATIVITY

1.Today's Archives 4 pack crayons
2.Today's Archives 4 pack crayons

Today’s Archives is a platform to showcase stylistic ideas and tell stories through the lens of fashion, film, photography, design, and our own personal experiences and opinions detailed in writing.  For Issue 1 of Today’s Archives, storytelling is at the forefront of the publication. Each individual who has contributed to this issue is an archive of experiences and ideas that tell the story of who we are.  We’re curious about where creativity comes from and how many different ways there are to express it without being restricted by rules and trends. In the past, our focus has been on fashion, and while that remains a key part of what we do, we’re driven to find the line that runs through all the interests and passions that we have and tie them up in a publication that expresses our ideas in a unique way.

SERIESFEST

1. SIE Film Center

I recently had the opportunity to attend the Denver SeriesFest to view a selection of short independently produced tv pilots.  Between fashion and art continues to grow in Denver over the past year, it’s good to see that film and television are also finding ways to thrive here.  SeriesFest is a global showcase but having the event here gives a chance for Denver filmmakers and creatives to network and also display a lot of work that may go unnoticed without events like these.  The specific event I attended was set around a series of television pilots ranging from animation, experimental films, sitcoms, to off the wall "David Lynch-esque” comedy dramas. The content was as varied as the budget and pedigree of each team of filmmakers.  All of it was viable in its own way, which is a testament to what is possible a medium that is so often restricted by budgets and where you might reside in America.

PEOPLE OF CRAFT

1. People of Craft

I was recently having a conversation with my girlfriend about how I would like to organize a "meet up" of people of color in tech and creative industries here in Denver. There is no denying that Denver is having a tech boom and it would be an honor to meet other people of color who are participating in it. I was very happy to find a platform that puts that same idea on a larger scale. People of Craft is a platform that showcases creatives of color all over the world, redefining what a creative looks like. You might find the person to help you on that one ongoing project you have or your next friend, business partner, or even significant other via the site.

SPORTY AND RICH

1. Sporty and Rich Issue 3

The projects that make our life's a little better always tend to be passion projects. They're the projects that we don't answer to anybody but ourselves. That's where Today's Archives derives from and so does Sporty and Rich. Sporty and Rich is created by Emily Oberg and it started as a print magazine but is now a creative consultancy agency. I'm sure the magazine fuels a lot of the work that Emily gets as it's a wonderful platform for her to showcase her taste and ideas.

IRIS DAVID EDITH ANGELA

1. David Owen
2. IDEA Merch

Today, publications are one of the only things I constantly purchase. Self help books, magazines, & coffee table books are something I can’t have enough of. IDEA BOOKS was introduced to me via the app Depop. As I looked through their collection I was very excited to have had come across such vast archive of publications. Instantly, I knew IDEA BOOKS was something that would have my attention. Recently, co-founder David Owen of IDEA sat down with the Neighbour from Canada to talk about how it all came about.

  • PRINT IS NOT DEAD
  • "That’s tricky to answer as originally all we ever intended it to do was to pay the bills and afford us a living."
  • "Suddenly we needed a name and IDEA was conceived (actually by our eldest daughter Iris - it is an acronym for Iris David Edith Angela, our family)"

@JJJJOUND

1. JJJJOUND

Justin R. Saunders from Montreal, Canada has and will continue to have my undivided attention when it comes to updates, products, etc. There is actually a huge amount of irony typing this out and speaking on him as he built his reputation out of just images and no text. Established in 2006, JJJJOUND.COM has become a sanctuary for design enthusiast. Displaying thoughtfully curated image that scream taste! Aside from his curated selection of images, the site host a shoppe full of tangible goods from beanies, coffee mugs (pencil holders), & even a mini hoop set for when 3pm strikes at the office.

LEISURE STUDIOS

1. Leisure Studios

Denver as it is today, seems to be constantly growing and changing. For the better part of the last three years I had the privilege of being supporter and contributor to a large collective of Denver based artist and creatives. Lined along the warehouses, boutiques, and restaurants of the Santa Fe Art District, Leisure Studios was one of the only places that ever held my attention. I'm biased as many of my friends played music from the venue, had gallery showings, and threw events and parties. However, when it comes to good taste and good people Leisure Studios was exactly the kind of place that would be overlooked (thankfully?) by Westword and the Post and valued as a sanctuary for the people that went there over some the "kooky-er" places in Denver. It's sad to see it close at the start of the New Year but like the warehouses in RINO, or the "original Streadbrook" it's played a big role in connecting me to the city I was raised in and in creating a real culture in Denver the right way.

TH-OUGHTS.COM

1. th-oughts.com

The description above says it all. The idea that you could ask the people you deem as experts a question and actually have them reply to it is very intriguing. I am one of those people that Benjamin Edgar Gott has spoke about in those interviews in regards to why he started this platform. I was cold emailing people questions, asking them to let me pick their brain on an idea or an issue, with little to no success. In all reality no success. Sure, reaching out is scary. What if they do read it and you look like a fool via email? What if they think you're just outright annoying for bothering them with questions? At the root if it, you're simply just trying to learn. You want to be able to move forward in the project you're working on. I sure don't mind paying $10 for asking a question that can result in very valuable information. Th-oughts has a directory of experts raging from fashion, photography, design, business, video, interior design, etc.
